I recently passed the
SCJP 6 and I'm looking into starting the
SCJD. I saw some confusion in the forums as to whether there is a deadline to submit the programming assignment, so I contacted Sun about it. Below is the answer I received:
Dear Bruce Alspaugh,
Thank you for contacting Sun Certification Customer Support. We are happy to assist you.
When we released the SCEA 5 certification in early 2008, we instituted a 12-month time limit to complete the SCEA 5 assignment from the time the assignment is downloaded. The decision was also made to insitute a 12-month time limit on the SCJD assignment as well.
However, the appropriate updates were not made to the 310-252A SCJD Part 1 assignment description or in the Certification FAQs on our website until February 2009. At this time we are not enforcing the assignment time limit. We anticipate that we will begin enforcing the time limit on the SCJD and SCEA 5 assignments with customers that download their assignments starting in May 2009.
Therefore, you have no time limit to complete your assignment, with one possible exception. Sun certifications are in a constant state of development. Eventually, we will retire the current SCJD certification and possibly replace it with a new version of the certification. If this happens, we will send notification emails to all candidates who have started the SCJD assignment. In addition, certification retirements are announced on our website at http://www.sun.com/certification. In the event that the SCJD certification is retired, the new assignment submission deadline will be announced on our website. We highly recommend that you check our website frequently.
Please let us know if we may be of further assistance. Thank you for choosing Sun products and services.
Sincerely,
Michele Castle
