How to overcome Flying phobia? I have been flying for seven years and now a days, cross the atalantic(Continental Europe to Mid-West in US) almost every quarter. But as always, I am nervous. Any suggestions ??

Just sit tight and stop worrying. Everything will be fine.

I tried to lose myself in the in-flight movie, United 93...

Get a PSP or a DS Lite etc, and if you are into the game, you probably wouldn't even notice taking off, landing or of course flying! I for one, if not already fast asleep, would have my camera handy (they allow still camera on most of the flights) and would be clicking away at one thing or other!

Another common cure is to get drunk, but then you have to know your limits, or you shouldnt be claustrophobic, of the jail cells!

Good topic to put my cents since long time..
The first flight I boarded had a travel time of 18 minutes. I really felt like being thrown out of earth when taking off and when that guy in the closed room twisted the flight during a turn.
No camera allowed inside a flight in India.

I was once the same. Now I fly a return jounrey every two weeks and so found a way to help.
this site is very useful

I often just use Self-Hypnosis to relax myself, and if it's a particularly nerve-wracking trip I'll listen to one of the MP3s mentioned.

Stop looking to shows like "Aircrash investigation".
Don't watch movies like "Airplane", "Airport", etc.
There are courses to help you get over it but they're more for the severe cases who get scared even thinking of aircraft.

Above all, relax and don't worry. A little apprehension is normal for highly skilled people. We don't like to be out of control of our own destiny, yet when you walk onto an aircraft you place your life in the hands of a piece of machinery and a group of other people you never even met.

Learning all you can about what makes an aircraft work and what a pilot does helps.
You might even want to take one or two flying lessons, or at least read a basic book about learning to fly.

Don't start with the Beech turboprop commuter from Scranton to Cleveland. Did that Monday, back Tuesday. Kind of exciting as long as nobody throws up on ya.

I had thought this, so during one flight I started talking about how the plane stays up in the air to a fellow passenger who was nervous. Unfortunately I forgot about the whole making it sound less scary thing, and got rambled on about how amazing it was that the only thing making the plane stay up in the air was the fact that the air had a slightly different distance to travel under the wing compared with over it. At this point the person I was talking started looking a bit upset!
