Hi Folks,

I'm just practicing using Pattern and Matcher, I have the following code

And at the command line I've typed the following

java RegExp \d* a1b2c3d4e5f6g7h8i9

The output I get from this is........

Pattern is: \DELL

What the hell's that all about?

You are seeing the effects of shell wildcard expansion.

You need to do this (double quotes around your pattern):
java RegExp "\d*" a1b2c3d4e5f6g7h8i9

Since this is *not* a Java question -- but a command shell question -- it would help, if you tell us which shell you are using?

When the filename meta characters doesn't match anything -- it is left unchanged.
