Problem accessing nodeValue and nodeName

Just getting the hang of using DOM, crap page essentially. Here's the code I have but each time I call the function it gives me an error that that nodeName is null or not an object. I also had tab1[icnt].nodeType in the alert as well which it also complained about. Is nodeType not in HTML DOM? Any help would be appreciated.
