Have any of you Bartenders ever considered a career being paid to teach?

Paid to teach what and where?

I was a certified middle/high school math teacher (grades 6-12, ages 11 - 18) in a previous career. worst job ever. I made roughly a third of what I make now, worked longer hours, for less reward.

Never going back to that.

I had a colleague look into this once -- basically, see if it was possible to transfer from the company's consulting department to the education department. He was very interested (and I was mildly interested). At minimum, it would have taken a paycut of half.

And this is going to teaching in a corporate environment. I would think the paycut would be worse to actually go into teaching in the public sector.

Some of us write, do training or mentor. Which are forms of teaching.

That's what I do. I teach JBoss Admin class, Hibernate, and Spring Framework classes mostly.

Why, do you want to hire me to teach a class? I am available for hire, 1099 work.

I only wondered because you guys basically have to enjoy teaching somewhat or you wouldn't be on these forums everyday. I was curious how many of you would have wound up teaching at perhaps the college level in the field if given the opportunity with proper compensation.

TEACHING is great. Being a teacher sucks.

It's more than that. It's content too. Technical training (what Mark does) tends to be different than the average college class. Students have different motivations, content/focus is different etc.

I'm not a bartender, but I've taught at a couple of Colleges. As someone up thread said: teaching is great, being a teacher not so much.
