what all should i do to practice programs in my system without using netbeans or eclipse,
i tried with sun site, it has got jdk, kre, jde ee , which one to download & install,
how to make link path to command prompt to compiler,
please somebody helpme,
What you install is called jdk6update12. Don't install jre; jdk includes the jre.
As you have been told, set your system PATH and forget about the CLASSPATH at this stage.
Download a nice text editor designed for programming, eg jEdit, Notepad2, Notepad++, if you are using Windows. Notepad as included with Windows is not very good for programming.
Open a command prompt and navigate to the folder where your .java file is. If you created a java file in my documents, you just write "cd Java".
write "javac ClassName.java"
Write "java ClassName"
Note where you do say .java and where you don't say .java. Look out for error messages. In the link I gave you, go up one folder (click on where it says "trail" at the top) and look for the "common problems" section.

When www.vnunet.com recommended Notepad2 (and the similar Notepad++) as better text editors than Notepad (about 3-4 years ago) somebody wrote in to complain and said Notepad was good because it can support right-to-left writing.
