I have the following function:

Which returns: Mon Mar 02 03:13:00 GMT 1970

How can I modify it so it returns "02 Mar 02:03 AM" ?

Try this pattern="dd MMM hh:mm a";

BTW check out the SDF for more transformations.

A Date object does not really have a formatting. You should use a different DateFormat object with the pattern Balu suggested to turn the Date back into a String.
