Storing coordinates in applets

Hello ,

I am new to applets,I have an applet I need to draw a box,do i have any chance to store the coordinates programaticaly in the background,if so how i can view the coordinates once again on the applet viewer,one more thing I want a buuton to be displayed on the viewer let suppose button name is rectangle,when i click it it should prompt me for enter the coordinates,when i enter and click ok it should draw a rectangle for me,Is it possible,
please help me out
