Q: if you closed the window then what happens to your session?

Nothing will happen.

The server has no idea that your window has been closed. Eventually, the session will time out.

From server view: nothing as Bear said
From client view: the clients "normally" lost their sessions, will have new sessions when access to the site again.

That depends on how you interpret the "window". A browser tab? A clone window? A browser instance? In the first and second case the same session will just be reused (as long as it is not timed out on the server side) and in the third case a new session will be created.

Few websites keep the session running even after we close the window. In fact even when we access the website days later, it still keeps the session running.

Something like the Remember me checkbox on google or yahoo...How does this work?

Cheers

I'll poke around cookies for that... That's where all the remembering action is
