Is the android platform an easy way to change over an existing web-application to a mobile-handset friendly version?
If so,what does it take to change an existing "fare-comparing" website to a handset friendly one?

Uh, that depends on what you mean.

Getting a Web site to work nicely on a small-screen edition of WebKit should be relatively straightforward, and that will give you something that works on Android, iPhone, and the upcoming Palm Pre (probably).

Creating a native Android application is "easy" if you have adequate experiencing building GUIs other than Web sites, particularly in Java.

YESSS..Mark...You said it again, I have been developing web-applications with java (not really websites). So I should learn more about this Android platform. It will be interesting for me.
