I am going to develop a application where the application contains a chapter menu which has some 4 chapters. each chapter contains few topics and subtopics . Each subtopic has some pages to learn. when ever a user login in to this application and when he stars reading the chapter i.e when he clicks chapter button for the first time in that session the time has to be recorded till he log out of this application. how can i do this? When ever user logins in this application he has to every new session , the user has to get a alert message that "till now how much time he has spend for learning that corresponding chapter"How can i do this?

In the same application the user has to proceed to next chapter only he completes the chapter and corresponding test in the scheduled time. until then the next chapters has to be disabled.how can i make this?

I see a few questions in here:
- how to store something in a session
- how to check a session
- how to disabled pages
- how to display an alert

Right now this post reads like a requirements document. How about we start with one of these questions. I'll assume you are stuck on the first one. Take a look at the HttpSession JavaDoc for the name of the method to set an attribute in the session.
