What is the maximum length (number of bytes) of a data element (which contains text) in a SOAP message?

I don't mean the value that is set by maxLength, of a given xsd:string, but what is its maximum value capacity?

Is the length of xsd:string "infinite", for example in the range of positive integers?

Are there other types besides xsd:string for holding textual data?

This is a question that came up during WSDL design of my web service at work.

Thanks for any help on this topic.
