Need help to understand about Canvas

hi group,
Can anyone explain me about Canvas.and Drawable
I guess Canvas can be considered as screen
but ,how Canvas and View are related,
what is the difference between
1. calling draw method of Drawable object and passing canvas object
and
2. calling drawText() or drawLine() ,etc .. of Canvas method and passing paint object
