Study Material for JWS 1.5

Hi,

As mentioned in other posts that new version of Web Services cert is out....
Can you guys help to figure out study material for the same....
SCDJWS links have information for 1.4 Cert....

I am new to JWS and want to prepare for cert, now since new version is out, I have no clue from where to start....

I would appreciate if you can suggest study material which can help to achieve the objectives....

I am also looking for a good book for scdjws 5. I am studying from a few books, but i want one that contains most of objectives. Can you please suggest exam specific book for JWS 1.4 certification?

I have compared objectives of 1.4 & 1.5, 99% objectives are same. And version for topics (technologies) are higher.
I am new to XML & Web service & preparing from links is bit tough.

I would prefer to prepare for 1.4 & study the higher version topics from links.

Is there any exam specific book for JWS 1.4?

I dont know how exam specific it is but the most popular book for the exam/web services is the Richard Monson-Haefel or RMH for short.

Amit is right. I have also refered this "RMH" book in addition to MZ (Mikalai Zaikin) WSD Guide and WSD Quiz and whizlab for scdjws 1.4.

Hi,

I am also preparing for the exam.Using old notes of MZ and Watsh Rajneesh.

One more site I came across : JustJavaJee

The guy has cleared the beta exam and is interested in making a guide and quiz for the new exam .
Looks like some people are interested in buying the guide plus sample questions . I am also interested in sample quiz .
Hope he brings it out soon . The cost seems ok (10$-15$) .

If sufficient people are ready to buy it maybe we can ask him to get ready fast with the questions/guide.

there is no cert preparation book for Java Web Service Certification, not EVEN for 1.4 (so do not expect cert guide for 1.5 in near future)....
But you should not drop idea to get certification.... others have done it & we are non the less ....
Read RMH book, every body (most of the rancher) read from that book & if you are preparing for 1.4 then I think that's good help... but if you are preparing for 1.5 then (after reading the book) study the links mentioned in this post (there are 3-4 link).....

if you are aware of JWS 1.4 then you can start with links only.....

At this point I want to scold Sun & the community but I know that would be totally WRONG... every body is doing their part...
Sun is busy with evaluation of specs....
Author community is busy & working on projects & books as per their commitments & interest
There are Servers & containers...
But as a new comer we are struggling or may be we want spoon feeding....

But when everybody is doing its part (sounds like layered architecture).... things are independent but connector is missing (cert guides are missing) for new comers ...

Some may say that there are lot of JWS books, so
(Cert preparation books are different from BOOKS.
Cert preparation books are based on objectives & every section has question to test your knowledge, which helps to find out what we missed while reading or what we did not understood correctly.)

I have now started with RMH - again an excellent book.

Can someone share their experience of preparing for the exam - more specifically the sequence in which the topics to be covered and topics which are more important.

these resources are good for JWS 1.4.

If you have looked at http://faq.javaranch.com/java/ScdjwsLinks, and want to prepare for JWS 1.4, then links mentioned by you are helpful.

I am not sure if you have noticed that JWS 1.5 is the latest version , http://www.sun.com/training/catalog/courses/CX-310-230.xml.

Hi Deepika,

From what I have figured out in the forums, I dont think we can refer to one book/guide for JWS 1.5.
We can read the books for 1.4(specifically the one by Richard Monson Haefel), then check out the exam objectives which seem to be different and read them up from the specifications. I guess that would be ideal.

Was good to see the posts on 1.5 over 1.4. My head was spinning a bit deciding on which to take up. On the practical side , does the industry really use what 1.5 has brought in new?

Why is the pass percentage different in both the exams?

Also , how long would you think the preparaton time be? I know its tough to generalise this one. On an average would 2 months do?

First thing is all topics (objectives) are same in cert 1.5 & 1.4 (except JAX-RPC, which is replaced by JAX-WS, again a improved version of JAX-RPC).
Cert 1.5 has topics next version. (e.g, instead of SOAP 1.1 (cert1.4) - SOAP 1.2 (cert1.5))
In RMH book printed 2003 (if I am not wrong its 2003 or near to it), explains SOAP 1.1 and shares some information (or changes/reason) in SOAP 1.2, I do not have doubt that, a concept/specification built in 2003, would not be in use 2009.

Also , how long would you think the preparaton time be? I know its tough to generalise this one. On an average would 2 months do?

I think if someone spends 5 /6 hours a day, can prepare this in 21 days.

I finally completed SCDJWS , thanks for all ranchers for your support, thanks a lot..

Here is my preparation plan.
My preparation started with java webservcies bible... J2EE web wservices, by Richard Monson Haefel (RMH) .
first have gone through the entire book once and used to refere while taking the practice tests.

The first step is to getting comfortable with WS technologies like
XML 1.0 , XSD 1.0, SOAP 1.1, WSDL, UDDI 2.0
second step is to understand the API's
JAX-RPC, SAAJ, JAXP, JAXB , JAXR.
then go through the specification like..
Basic Profile 1.0, J2EE blueprints (Service Endpoint Design), Web service Security
Final step is...
Take some mock exams
