Hi,

I have a basic question about which certification exam to take. I have been working in java for 2 years now ( 1.5 yrs as a student and 6 months as a full time developer). I am confused as to whether SCJP is a right certification to start off with considering that I have already been developing in Java for sometime now. How useful will it be on my resume? Are there any other certifications that are popular and more useful right now?

Also I was thinking would certification in Spring or Hibernate be better than just SCJP? If so can any of you point me to info and resources about preparing for either of these certifications? As far as I have searched, Spring certifications can be achieved only through day time workshops. Correct me if I am wrong.

Thanks,
aish

Go for SCJP !!!
What Hibernate Certification you talking about ? Is there any out there I am not aware of?
Spring is good to have but One steps at a time! So SCJP is the best for you!
Good luck!!!

thanks a lot for the quick reply!!!

I got Sun's SCJP1.6 preparatory book. That should suffice to start off right? I see that there are lot of mock exams online too..

thanks,
aish

If you really want to pass here is the best plan of attack!
Step 1) get SCJP Sun Certified Programmer for Java 6 Exam 310-065 by Katherine Sierra and Bert Bates Not any other
Step 2) Read this book 3 times (I mean read like a real test book) or until you are comfortable!!!
Step 3) Review MZ's Note
Step 4) Try Enthuwa If you can It is must If not try whatever you get.
Step 5)go through Javaranch post after you finish Step 3.
Don't try to do Short cut! If you go with this plan I am 100% you will score high!!
Good Luck!
