Hi Ed,

Welcome to the forum. Are you working on any new books on Android or newer version of "Hello Android"?

Thanks,

Devender

It's funny you asked, I was all set to do a proposal for "Twitter for Dummies" but then I found out they already had one.

Ohh..."Twitter for Dummies"?
What you think about future of Android, relative to iPhone? Do you think it will click big time or it will drag on long time before gaining some critical mass? I am talking in context of mobile app only, not as Netbook OS or something else?
You are thinking about writing a book on Twitter, that's not a good sign for Android.

Regards.

Going along with Devender's question, do you have any paid application you are developing ?

I don't have a crystal ball but I think Android has a lot of potential. There was an analyst's report recently that predicted Android phone sales would surpass iPhone sales by 2012. I learned how to program both (see my series of articles on that), but my focus is on Android.

I do have a paid application on the Market (called Re-Translate) but it was mostly intended as a learning experience rather than a money maker. Which is just as well since it hasn't made much money. Currently I reduced the price to $0 to drum up some users and good reviews. I have another series on that if you want to follow along.

Mark Murphy has also started a series about the Market for AndroidGuys.

Hi Ed,

I looked at sales figures of your application. It's very disappointing. It seems that it's hard to recover the cost of Android phone developer have to buy for testing. In this case only 36 paid download.
How was you experience in developing this application. How much time did you spend?
Do you plan to work on any more applications in near future?

Thanks.

Well to be honest, my little app wasn't all that polished and there's only a small number of users that need its functionality. As I write this, the top paid apps on the Market right now have between 1,000 and 5,000 sales. That's not bad considering the store has only been open for a few weeks and is only open for US developers and users to start with (more promised soon).

For example the top game Jewellust which is $2.95 is a lot of fun, arguably better than BeJeweled. Sales on that are between $3k and $15k so far (minus Google's 30%). Look at some of the talkbacks people left on my articles and on the google thread (there's a link in one of the articles) and you'll see lots of good advice on creating and marketing a profitable application.
