Servlet response not ending or long running

I have a strange behaviour in my application: sometimes, the servlet sends the response, the page is completely loaded by the browser, but the browser doesn't stop loading, the activity icon is still running. Just after 1 or 2 minutes the browser stops loading.

I set the content length and the encoding correct in the response. The output stream gets in a finally block flushed. What I figured out is, that if I use UTF-8 or ISO-8859-1 as the content encoding everything works fine. But if I use an encoding such as GB232 or ISO-8859-5, I get the behaviour described above.

Any hints?
Dominik
