Google Suggest and Google Maps are two examples of a new approach to web applications that we at Adaptive Path have been calling Ajax. The name is shorthand for Asynchronous JavaScript + XML, and it represents a fundamental shift in whats possible on the Web.

"How to implement Google Suggest" is a chapter in every single AJAX book that's been published. When I read the first post in this thread, I had to double-check the date -- this stuff has been around a long time now, folks.

But I still think it goes to show
1) AJAX, while still up and coming, still evokes a 'wow factor'
2) We aren't as familiar with AJAX we should be (due to reduced usage on the net?)
3) Say what you like otherwise, but Google kicks asp.

Google is late entrant in AJAX. I saw those wonders in snap.com long back.

EFH,

I had to check the date too. I was writing my book at this time last year and had that link in it. LOL.

I bet someone will figure out the Earth is round when they see Google Earth! hehehe

Where to find:
Search the internet for Ajax, plenty of stuff out there since it has been around for ages and we have had like 5 Ajax book promotions here on the ranch.

Book version:
Don't think so about the Indian cheap vesion of the AIA (don't you like the nice fonts and paper of the good version!) I do not know for a fact.

I know there is a Korean version! It is even bigger than the English version.

Google suggest (Beta) has been around for long now, in fact by now almost everybody has tutorials & articles on Ajax -- I think I did a hackathon on it almost a year ago.

Eric, do you mean cheap (we call them affordable, a USD 50 book is far too expensive here) Indian Editions are bad? They are not as bad as you might think -- though original are better?

I have belief that US and Indian versions contain same text, but Indian version are printed in India so stationery material will be different. Am I right?

Yes the content is the same, though you won't find too many coloured pages or the smooth feel to the pages[in some instances].

But anyways, I guess its the content which is important so...
