I am planning to built a new system. Need suggestions.

Which would be better for java development. Please consider other applications and over all performance too. Any pros and cons not related to java development are also welcome. The choices are

- AMD Athlon64 X2 (Socket AM2)
- AMD Athlon64 X2 (Socket 939)
- Intel Pentium D

With same processor speed, say 3.0GHz and +. Other micro devices, definitely, would be respective to the system.

Thanks.

Does it have to be one of those specific processors?

Did you know that Intel just formally announced the new line/architecture of processors called Core 2 (this is not the Core Duo; the number '2' is the defining modifier).

It is a good time to buy the newly old processors because of the price cuts but believe it or not, some (not all) of the new Intel Core 2 are faster and cheaper than the recently-made-old old Pentiums.

The only problem is that if you want one tomorrow, you won't be able to get it. The ship date may be a month or more up.

Finally, I understand that AMD was the king before last week when Intel formally announced its Core 2 for the desktop (code name Conroe).

Really! I didn't really know about "core 2". I am looking some fact sheets and some comparative benchmarking over net.
Thanks.
