Hello,

I made a simple bean that gets some xml data that is used to update a listbox (ajax helps). The problem I am having is that I use jstl that detects a POST has occured. It is supposed to run the bean (xml.setDSList(server, port) and then run the ajax to refresh the listbox. I put an alert before the bean call, and that alert displays. The alert after the bean call does not run, which makes me believe the ajax code is not getting called as well. The bean simply runs the xml command via run.exec and is run in a thread (i.e., update.start() is called). It does have a waitFor() call in it as well.

Why is the javascript alert and other code not running after my bean call?

JSP executes on the server prior to sending the page to the browser. JavaScript is interpreted by the browser on the client when the page is received. They have nothing to do with each other.

Please read this article for more detail.

It is sorta covered in the JavaRanch Style Guide.
