It is commonly said that the Soul (if any such thing exists) leaves the body when one dies.

When does the sould enter the body ?

Actually speaking the soul is in place first and the body gets built around it.

Who ever are bathing the baby first time, usually the midwife/nurse, puts it into the baby. They are usually well stocked up with souls, but during certain periods when one too many babies are born, to meet the demand they end up putting tiny bits of soul to each babies, and since souls are like amoeba, they grow back and fill but not necessarily a perfect one though, soul nonetheless and its hard to verify its existence, let alone quality anyway!!

Just a small clarification:
I am sure Raghav Sam meant "when the foetus is around 7 months old"

In Christianity, I'd have to say it's at conception, though there is a bit more to it than that. But that at least answers the question that was asked.

A cousin of mine told me this: He was the third child in the family, and people in his family would talk about events that happened before he was born. When he asked "Where was I then?" they answered "You were not born yet." The next time one of these conversations took place, he asked "Was I still dead then?"

Soul is never born, it never dies. It takes various forms ( bodies) based on the karma that the soul earns while in a particular body.

OK.

Next meta-physical/philosophical question.

The human body is a living thing.

Most people would agree that the human heart is a living thing as well.

Fewer may agree that the heart's muscle tissue is living.

What about individual cells ?

What about the DNA / nucleotides, ribosomes and other cellular material ? Is it living or non-living ?

What about the proteins that the cell synthesizes or is made up of ?

I'd love to hear opinions based on your POV, your religion's POV and science.

I think we create our soul after we are born (just like after we manufacture hardware we install the software), do the righteous deed (like following good programming practices) and create a good soul (like UNIX, Linux) or do bad things and create a bad soul (like MS Windows with lot of bugs).
