Appending to text file

i need to write to file.but it already contain some text.so i tried to append.but it overide the data .where is the error?

public class writer {

	public synchronized void put() throws IOException{
		
		File file=new File("E:\\abc.txt");
		
		PrintWriter pw=new PrintWriter(file);
		
		BufferedWriter br=new BufferedWriter(pw);

		pw.append('a');
