I went shopping last night in a large shopping centre (Bluewater) and noticed that several shops had their Christmas displays up! In October!

How can this travesty be allowed? It's more then a quarter of a year away for goodness sake. They not only make me completely fed up of Christmas by the time it comes along, but also completely dilutes any Christmas spirit I may have left by spreading it out over so long. Why not just wait until December before putting them up? It would make the festive period so much more special, instead of being just another three or four month long Chinese water torture of glitter, fake snow and shopping frenzies.

At least they weren't playing those awful Christmas songs, but it won't be long.

the first stores have had christmas (not Christmas, that was never a commercial travesty) decorations up since late august.

I refuse to shop at such stores, will bypass them at least for the rest of the year.

I was planning on a boycott of any shops putting up Christmas decorations in too early, but then I realised I wouldn't be able to buy anything until January, so I guess I'll have to just put up with it.

12 more days in October, 30 in November, 24 in December. That makes 66 days, or well under a fifth of a year. These things sneak up on you, don't they!

Blimey. My brain must still be back in September or something.

Some Edinburgh shops had their decorations up last month. I like the Parisian set up - the shops there have an agreement that they don't put their decorations up before the start of December.
