hi, can somebody tell me that, do we have to configure HttpSessionActivationListener and HttpSessionBindingListener in Deployement Discriptor.

Its solely depends upon your need and what you want to do with particularly with http sessions.

Note: The HFSJ book is in error on this matter, as the errata has confirmed.

Here, at JR for SCWCD, the most favorite book is HFSJ and that book has typo/errata regarding the Servlet listeners binding in DD.
In short here, is the errata link and particularly we're talking about this

[256] Bang box titled "You do NOT configure session binding listeners in the DD!;

Changed the title to "You do NOT configure ALL session listeners in the DD!"

Changed the "HttpSessionActivationListener" to "HttpSessionAttributeListener" in the text.

Yeah ,you need to provide <listener></listener> tag in web.xml ,which holds the class path of your class which implements the appropriate listener ..
