I started traveling very early in my career, and have continued that trend so far.

There are still a lot of places that I would like to visit before considering myself lucky...

1. Italy - want to visit Tuscany region, Venice, Florence etc cities
2. France - Paris and all those beutiful mountains that have been watching in Tour de France
3. The Caribbeans
4. Tokyo
5. And many more...

My apologies if this comes out like a pissing contest response but:

Europe
========
England, Wales, Scotland, Ireland, Norway, Spain, Andorra, France, Italy, Belgium, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Czech Republic, Romania, Greece

Africa
========
Tunisia, Egypt, Kenya, Tanzania, Malawi, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Botswana, South Africa

Asia
========
Philippines, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Japan, Hong-Kong

South America
===========
Colombia, Equador, Peru

Australiasia
===========
Australia, New Zealand

Favourite?... tough call.... but highlights were either trekking througgh the Peruvian 'Cordierra Blanca' at 5000m with just 2 of us (didnt see another soul for 4 days!) - or canoeing down the Zambezi river along the Zim/Zam border carefully dodging Hippos, Buffalo and Elephants!

I have never been on a world tour -- but I did quite a bit of island hoping in the Caribbean, as you can tell from the list.

As for a world tour, we (wife and I) looked at a round-the-world cruise, but taking 2-3 months off is a bit too much. Maybe when we get closer to retirement.

I recently filed for two visas -- and in both cases, they wanted countries visited in the last 10 years. So, here is my country list over the last 10 years.

<Inhale>

United States, Russia, England, Spain, Malta, Tunisia, Italy, France, Monaco, Canada, Japan, Denmark, Sweden, Finland, Estonia, Poland, Norway, Puerto Rico, St Maarten, St Thomas, Turks & Caicos, Bahamas, Aruba, Bonaire, Curacao, Panama, Costa Rica, Cayman Islands, Scotland, Ireland, Iceland, Greenland, Tortola, Martinique, Barbados, Grenada, St Kitts, Mexico, Honduras, Belize, Antigua, Guadeloupe.

<Exhale>

Obviously, anything that was on the previous list, but not on this one, meant that it has been more than 10 years since I been there...

Favorites: Same as before..... but add Toyko to the list (Japanese food is fantastic).

If it helps, one of the two visas that I applied for recently *is* for India (specifically for Bangalore, Mumbai, and Delhi, but of course, once I am in country, there should be no restrictions) .... have not completed the process yet though.

Hmmm, let's see if I can recall:

US (home country)
Canada (ancestral home)
France
Monaco
Germany
Spain
Switzerland
Austria
Liechtenstein (though I may have blinked and missed it as we were driving through)

Hard to pick a favorite, they all had great things about them.

Canada - great people
France - fantastic food, great people, scenic
Monaco - exciting
Germany - great people, great food, scenic, historically fascinating
Spain - great food, fantastic public transportation, history
Switzerland - beautiful, great chocolate
Austria - likely one of the most beautiful places on earth
Liechenstein - don't know, I blinked

If I had to pick one I'd visit again, it'd be hard to choose, but I suppose I'd go with Germany.

Top 5 other countries I'd like to visit: Japan, Thailand, China, New Zealand, Australia

I've been in many places. Let's see how far I get with this list. Maybe I'm forgetting some places I've been:

Europe

The Netherlands (I live here)
Belgium
Luxemburg
England
Scotland
France
Spain
Switzerland
Austria
Liechtenstein
Italy
Slovenia
Croatia
Czech Republic
Greece
Turkey
Germany (also Eastern Germany when it still existed)
Denmark
Sweden

Northern America

USA
Canada
Mexico

Africa

Morocco
Ethiopia

Asia

Oman
United Arab Emirates (all of them)
India
Thailand
Laos
Cambodia
Singapore
Hong Kong (when it did not yet belong to China)

Australia

I've also made landings with the airplane in other places such as Qatar, Saudi-Arabia and Brunei, but you can't really say you've been there when you haven't even left the airplane.

I liked it everywhere except maybe Myanmar (Burma). That was a little stressful.
The most i like is still Spain. Great People, good food, short flight. Australia made a good impression but when i was there it was at the end of a long trip and i was just tired of travelling itself and flew home on short notice. It's definitively worth another visit.

I too, use to have a list of a half dozen or so countries that "technically didn't count" because I didn't leave the airport. However, that list has been greatly eliminated over the years, as I actually visited those countries.

Currently, I think I only have one such country on the list -- and it is Taiwan.

[EDIT: oops, forgot about Holland, as I have also been to Schiphol Airport in Amsterdam]

Really, no Vietnam? That's my favorite by far. I speak the language though, so that colors my experience.

The U.S. is just so big and diverse, it seems a bit dissonant to say you've "been there". I've seen tours offered for 10 days to New York, Las Vegas, and San Francisco. There's just no way that could be fun.

Another place to put on your dream list is Ecuador, and particularly the Galapagos Islands, which are just straight up amazing.

Also, New Zealand has some some of the most amazing scenery in the world packed into a couple of smallish islands, plus everyone speaks English! (Barely)

I always wanted to go to the US but every time i fail to make an itinerary because there's too much to choose from. My last approach was to go only to places where many Germans emigrated to until i found this this map

[Source wikipedia.org]

I didn't know that

Maybe i should just book a package tour to Florida as a starter.

Yeah. Different countries should be treated differently. Some small ones, like Monaco, you can see everything in a day or so. While others, such as France, which surrounds Monaco, is completely different depending on your location. I can visit it many more times, and still probably not see (or experience) everything.
