Developing a server with clients with auto client discovery

+Pie Number of slices to send: Send
Hi Guys. I'ts been a while since my last visit at javaranch. Well, I need some advice / help. I want to develop a server component, with multiple clients. I want the server to automatically discover my clients. I don't want to configure the server with IP addresses of the clients available on the network. I'd just like to place a new client on a machine, and the server should automatically start talking to it. Is there a way to todo this in Java? Any help will be great!

Thanks every1
Martin

A conventional client-server program has a server listening for connections on a well-known host and port and the client makes a connection to it. There's no need for the server to be configured with the client address because sockets are bidirectional.
There are technologies for a networked device to advertise its existence and collaborate with other networked services, for example Jini.
