Hello,

I have two, but almost related, questions:

Question 1:
--------------

How to start the Derby Network Server using the following command from ant:

Question 2:
--------------

I want to start apache tomcat from ant, and I used the following target. Everything
works fine, tomcat start. But if I want to start it as a root, how to do this with ant?

You REALLY shouldn't run tomcat as root. Not even a production tomcat server.

For question 1.) Have you tried the java task in Ant? Perhaps the exec task could also work in this instance.

For question 2.) Why do you want to run as root?
