hey,

If my car is hit by a shoppingCart in a mall parking lot and the only thing left behind is a big dent/scratch ....

what should i do?? Does this fall under collision or comprehensive claim

I couldnt find a clear definition that i can use to define my scenario...

Any ideas, insurance underwriters in house???

Thanks..

I'm just guessing here since I am not an auto insurance expert.

If the car was stationary, I would say comprehensive. If you hit the cart while driving your vehicle, it's probably collision. Neither if the cost to fix the scratch is less than your deductible.

my car was stationary, i didnt see the guy but the cart. The estimate to fix is $1200

Insurance agent says its collision...i guess it because my collision deductible is higher than comprhensive.

Your insurance agent is an idiot. The difference is that collision insurance covers you when you are at fault, while comprehensive insurance covers damage by unknown third parties or acts of God. Unless you were driving around and hit the cart, it's covered by your comprehensive coverage.

All depends on where you are...
Over here they make no difference, you're always screwed unless there's a police report they can use to reclaim the money from someone else.
And they wonder why so many people don't claim damages of less than several thousand Euro...
