I use EJB3 in action as main reference for getting to know EJB, but I like to book because it's so practical.

if you want to learn EJB 3 - you can start with EJB 3 in Action

If you want to learn EJB - then start with HeadFirst EJB 2.x, it do not teach just important points, but it STRESS on important points and you can not ignore those things (basics). Latest version of EJB is 3.x, and lot things are changed from EJB 2.x to EJB 3.x. In case you are starting with HF EJB 2.x, you can go through EJB intro & session bean. Rest (lot of things) are totally changed & not needed.

100% YES. And you won't have any issue, even if you have you can share in this forum.

What I said was based on my grasping power /experience on subjects. It's a trad-off to select EJB 3 In Action or HF 2.x
When I started reading about EJB 2, I was confused, that why I need EJB when we have RMI.
Then I looked into HF, it stress so much on container services, that no body can igrnore that & I learned EJB is not just business logic but business logic with in already available enterprise services.
Second thing HF has questions chapter wise, which test you knowledge, and what you missed to pick-up.
(As I mentioned trade off thing above), EJB 2.x needs interfaces inheritence which are not needed in EJB 3 at all, so you would spend time on thing which is not used in latest version.
