I was toying with the idea about making a move myself into something similar but in this case i think as of now IBM or SAP could be a bad move. I would probably think as of now look into an Oracle product if you are really looking to make a move. Oracle competes with IBM and SAP in that people application, integration product space. They recently acquired Sun and with it ownership of
Java. Oracle nullifying their license to use Java might be unlikely but it could tighten things and could convince customers that it has a better middleware product over its competitors and gain a huge advantage over the two as both their infrastructure for middleware apps is also built on Java. for SAP, it will likely mean they go back to their Abap stuff and thus any advantage you had with your Java background is pretty much waste then. SAP also has a drawback that they are only into the software game unlike Oracle and IBM which use their applications as away to also push their hardware infrastructures. I don't know what IBM's strategy will be. Its always best to do your own due diligence before getting into anything.
