The Order of Canada recognizes outstanding lifetime achievement and contributions to society and the country by Canadians from all walks of life.

This should have put in the first paragraph.

@ Pradip:
Depends how you look at it.. if it's considered general knowledge that you
get an "Order" for achievements and contributions to society then there's
no need to include that in the beginning of the article.

People outside Americas (or maybe it is just me )are not aware of what an "Order" means. Considering that James Gosling is well know person world wide in the Java tech community it makes sense to inform the readers what an "order" means. Just my 2 cents.

Order of Canada ( from the article ):

"The Order of Canada recognizes outstanding lifetime achievement and contributions to society and the country by Canadians from all walks of life."

It's really pretty useless, kinda like an honorary doctorate

It's just you. No, seriously, I'm sure it's not just you, but the concept of an Order is hardly centered in the Americas. The idea is known in the Commonwealth nations and many others.

Well this website is the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, and I think it's fair to think that their stories might be written for a Canadian audience first and foremost. One might think that other readers could just wiki any unfamiliar terms.

I didn't notice the website belonged to CBC.
