I'm a little worried that I could be turning into a 14 year old girl ... but that could just be because I don't have a tv and know what it is that the 14 year old girls are crazy for right now.

Here in the seattle area, we have a radio station that is a like a college radio station WITH funding. Every three hours there is a new person picking out music and talking about all the concerts they went to in the last week and all of the concerts they are going to in the next week. Clearly, they are obsessed with listening to music. So you get a broad range of stuff. And thanks to all of their funding, if you listen to it with their streaming (kexp.org), then the name of each song pops up as they play it.

So this song comes on. I really like it. I feed it into pandora and have heard it many times now and still like it each time.

the artist is: lykke li - and the song is "dance dance dance"

If I heard that the teenagers didn't know it existed I would feel much butter.

"Lykke Li"? What a strange name. In Danish this would be pronounced the same as the word "lykkelig", which means "happy".

That's WAY cool!

When I started teaching guitar (which was a long time ago, but I was already getting "old" then), I was hoping to be exposed to new music through my students. But I was disappointed by how little they seemed to be really into it -- at least compared to when I was their age. I still get the same impression today talking to kids at the coffee shops. My theory was that kids today have so many other things competing for their attention: Internet (chat, social networking, shopping, blogging, etc.), cell phones, texting, 24-hour TV with hundreds of channels, DVDs, gaming... I concluded that music just doesn't play the same role it did for earlier generations.

So it's cool to hear about this station.

And I like to think I'm still marginally hip, but I hadn't heard of Lykke Li, so maybe you're cutting edge here!

It sounds like they have people all over the world listening to their stream. And I think there are some big cities that re-transmit it.

I have to admit, that about a third of the time I have to turn it off. There's just some tastes in music I don't care for. And I'll try again a few hours later and see what the next person is playing.

Yeah, there's a lot to filter out, but when you find something cool, it makes it worthwhile!

Just the title leads me to expect I would detest it. It's like being recommended a restaurant called "Eat Eat Eat!"
