I have a question/problem with the 1st lesson on cattle drive. Get "error: cannot read HelloWorld.java" when I type it into the dos prompt.

So you created a file named HelloWorld.java and saved it in C:\java subdirectory. Now you type "javac HelloWorld.java" and you get an error? Did you add C:\JAVA_HOME\BIN and C:\JAVA_HOME\JRE\BIN to your PATH? Are you in the same subdirectory as your HelloWorld.java file (C:\java) when you issue the javac command? When you type "dir", do you see the HelloWorld.java file there? Some text editors save all files with .txt on the end, so you might end up with HelloWorld.java.txt instead if you don't "Save As..." "HelloWorld.java" (including the quote marks).

Cajun Queen,

Please read http://www.javaranch.com/name.jsp and change your display name to an acceptable one (preferably your real name). We'd like you to be able to continue to post here at JavaRanch.
