"Sultans of Swing" by Dire Straits.

If not for that song, I would have become a drummer instead of guitarist, so it really changed my life.

Liberian Girl - Michael Jackson
All That I Need - (I have a different version from the usual Boyzone one, don't know the artist name, but this also sounds like Ronan Keating)
Truly Madly Deeply (Not by Savage Garden, again don't know the artist name)

.... and many others.

Top of the World - Shonen Knife (bubble-gum pop at it's finest)

Torn - Edna Swap - darker, more depressing, and raw than Natalie Imbruglia's sanitized cheery version

Thats a hard question to answer. I have more than 12000 in my personal collection (admittedly not all good music).

I keep about 160 songs on my phone. Here are a few from that list.

Vitamin C - Can
Chakra Khan - Various Artists
Giant vs Third Eye Foundation - The Third Eye Foundation
La Rapture - Yann Tiersen
No Dove Covenant - Third Eye Foundation
Third World Lover - Dynamite D./Kid Koala
Totally Confused - The Married Monk
While You Sleep - Shannon Wright/Yann Tiersen

I have a favorite album side: Great Divide and Pussy Wiggle Stomp from Don Ellis Live at the Filmore. Loud, fast, complicated material, last gig of a long tour, pumped up band pushing the edge of everyone's ability, amazing stuff.

I tend to get into an album, listen to it over and over, then move on. Right now, it's Bree Sharp. Some notable songs are "David Duchovny", an over-the-top tribute to the former X-files star (the man, the myth, the monotone), "Cheap and Evil Girl", and "Guttermouth". Great stuff!

Before that it was The 5,6,7,8's, then Jack Johnson, then The White Stripes.

My nightmare? Being locked in a room with John Todd as the DJ. I imagine he might have the same nightmare about me!
