Probably the best thing to do is to check with Sun itself.
Since 1.5 is relatively new, one can expect the 1.4 to be continued for a considerable amount of time.
That said, why not opt for the newer version when there isn't big change in the objectives?

If you change your plan to SCDJWS 5, you don't need to start from scratch. Why not take SCDJWS 5?

The SCDJWS 5 Beta was completed around Feb of this year.

I'm guessing the old exam will be around for 6 months to 1 year starting from that date.

But don't take my word for it, it's purely guesswork.

[When SCEA 5 arrived, I think the old SCEA was available until 1 year after SCEA 5's arrival.]

Like what Kengkaj suggested, why not take the newer version instead?

Can you please explain the bold part.

Amit's post I think already answers it:

For the updated exam the best reference based on other posts is still RMH book.

Just like in the older version of the exam.

If you have already prepared or have some experience with old or new versions, if I were you, I would definitely opt for SCDJWS 5. if you have already prepared, most of the old stuff will still be good and valid, you just need to focus on new feature in 5.
