"come on", or sometimes contracted to "c'mon" can mean "surely you're joking". it also means "follow along", depending on how it's used:

"I lost 30kg yesterday on my new diet"

"Come on, tell me the truth" (this speaker thinks the first is lying).

"I am going to check out the new video arcade at the mall. C'mon!!!"
this speaker want you to go to the mall with them

"common" means that something is ordinary or regular - as in "It is common for gas prices to go up in the summer"

at least, that's my perspective.

Is it possible you're making a generalisation? I would like to see a study of the correlation, please.

When Lleyton Hewitt points to his head and shouts, he is shouting 'common', not 'come on'. He common, see?

I think he's referring to Pulp or William Shatner rather than Paul Young covering Waylon Jennings.
