Hi Cory,

Understand you will be covering some of the useful pipelines architectural patterns in your book. Are these patterns related to or modified version of any of the existing patterns?

The Pipelines Patterns section does indeed cover various architecture patterns we found useful (and I'm sure others will add to this list). They are specifically scalability patterns, so that are generally in a different realm than other software patterns you may be familiar with. For example, something like the Singleton Pattern is really a code-level design pattern, whereas Pipelines Patterns are much more concerned with how you control the transaction, distribution and processing flow. You can apply patterns for scaling on a single server, all the way to an entire network of dozens or 100s of servers, and the patterns give you different ways of configuring pipelines to address a given application performance problem.
