... what moderators talk about in Moderators Only.

So. No more secrets!

Today, for example, we discuss what is the best way to put a drosophila fly to sleep.

I'll be damned!

Well, the forum description clearly states that it's a place for us to "secretly plot world domination." Let's not expose too much of the plan.

Don't worry, we haven't disclosed your plans for attaching video cameras. I still maintain that you can't rely on the help of prevailing winds.

We regret to announce that former sheriff Mapraputa Is has been relieved of her position at JavaRanch, and is now in the process of being deported back to Russia where she will doubtless be debriefed by her former Soviet spymasters. But what can we do, the damage is already done. Remember: loose lips sink ships!

Fortunately, most of what she was exposed to was misinformation, and it will be nearly impossible to sort things out. (But then, I suppose that's true for all of us.)

Just as long as no states how those flies will play an integral part in our world domination plot.

    Factoid:
If there was a prize for biggest sperm in nature, it would go to Drosophila bifurca, a tiny fruit fly whose coiled sperm would measure more than 2 inches long if straightened out.

Note: When sorting large quantities of anesthetized flies in a genetics lab, it's inevitable that you will transport some with you. Within a week or two, your car and your apartment will be well populated with little D. melanogasters.

I was going to reply in this thread, but Jim sent me back to Russia!

By the way, Jim, the Center isn't totally pleased with your job performance. They asked me to remind that you have to use the US Constitution to code your messages, and not Ender's Game. The guys from deciphering department don't have to track down all your Borders purchases just to be able to read your reports.

It is a standard trick, described in General Practices, Brave New World Amended Clarifications, section 13 and 15.

Either that, or there is something really hot going on in Moderators.

You noticed my new custom title!

For non-moderators: "In Soviet Russia" reversal refers to a piece of today's exchange in MO:

Mapraputa Is, posted October 18, 2007 12:54 AM
"Me never seen fitted-sheets in Russia. Consequently, when I have to fold a fitted sheet, I jam it into a ball, trying to make the ball as small as I can, while mumbling something incomprehensible and periodically shouting "Karl Marx!", "capitalists!" -- this usually keeps well-wishing observers away."

Synergy. Feh. If your company is being acquired by another company, and the word "synergy" appears in a press release about the acquisition, don't hesitate. Get your resume out of the door and into the hands of anybody who might want it right away.

[Mapraputa Is: ]   And these people talk about world domination !
Which people ? ( Note that you I am at your mercy and I have asked to be shown none ) Communications between a blind-side of an impenetrable barrier staffed by someone who can only talk about what is the best way to put a drosophila fly to sleep. ususally invokes (interest) where there may be no reason to be interested, a standard and often used approach to marketing.

Thus, to do computer security, you may wish to appear to be talking about Meaningless Drivel, to thwart meaningful discussion about Furrin Countries. The fur trade is a worldwide industry which involves the collection and sale of animal fur - a critical source of vitality for a collection of Nations that reverted to Communisim after having experimented with Free Elections. I note with interest ( for continuity in my observers ability to follow my intended path - while I suck you guys in ) that the failure occured when they got to the School Board Meetings.

Thus, I find reason to post in t = 010548 f = 32: this can get extremely serious in a flash-pan of Global Reach: Our clearly stated goal of World domination opens Fatal Attractors for attacks consisting of small packets or quanta of Marketers. In the last few days, I have accumulated some 45.6 KB (46,790 bytes) in a utilty package for projects I intend to get prototyped to a Alpha 0.80 internal release. While this is a direct consequence of having worked on several projects that had School Boards in ultimate control of budgeting, I cannot imagine in any threat, risk or burden that would cause an entire region of the world to revert to:

They have very little oil and gas production in the country, so most of the homes even many in the large cities have no heat in the winter, they just put on more clothing.

There is no heat or cooling in the homes. They may have electricity 2 hours a day. The bread is baked at a central bakery in each village. The children get the bread every morning and bring it back to the house. The family eats 2 meals a day. One in midmorning the other late at night. If there are any leftovers, they are served at the next meal until all the food is eaten. Children do not have any new clothing.

How we intend to attain World Dominion ....

I have to make a break in the devleoping thread of thought and explain to you guys something about myself. As a youngster, in Kansas, I experienced during mid-elementary school years something which is clinically labeled Solipsism ( Latin: solus, alone + ipse, self ) defined as: "My mind is the only thing that I know exists." (which is a buncha Moose Manure), but I uses it to diffract nuances in such as your "And these people talk about ... " So when I see someone from a non ISO Latin-1 dialect posting about: You noticed my new custom title! && Leverager of our synergies ... it's like YOU have sucked ME in, a refreshing change for a strata that usually considers "engaging" to be complimentary. And now you have locked me in a un-occupiable point where, one can never make simultaneous predictions of conjugate variables, such as sanity and utility, with arbitrary accuracy. Thus the above sentence completes as:

requires an understanding of Understanding How Good People Turn Evil.

I would be a little harder on you but you're too smart and I do not want you to go over, intramural warfare is not our goal here.

Discovering How Good People Turn Evil is.
