onscroll fires a lot of times, it is not add Event that is causing it to be fire a lot.
try it out without addEvent
<div id="foo">0</div> <script type="text/javascript"> var i = 0; window.onscroll = function(){ document.getElementById("foo").innerHTML = i++; </script>
