SCDJWS Study group in Toronto

Hello all,

Let me know if anyone would be interested in forming a study group for the Web Services certification.

I live in Toronto downtown.

We could draw up schedules , exchange notes , clear doubts , share mock ups.

Hoping to get a good response for this.

As I replied to your earlier message about what study material I am using (will use).

1. Imp - I am new to JWS
2. Imp - I am still trying to figure it out suitable resources, so please take care while considering my thoughts.

- RMH (most famous & best book for JWS)
You can start with ch. 1-5 (XML, SOAP, WSDL) without second thought

6,7,8 - UDDI (I have looked into few pages of ch 6, but would look to more pages, I am not sure about the limit.)

RMH
Ch. 13, 16 -21 (SAAJ, JAXP, JAXR)

(In RMH - you can have over view of JAX-RPC - ch 9, JAX-RPC is replaced with JAX-WS, but I found good to read about JAX-RPC over-view)
use Sun tutorial for basics for JAXB & JAX-WS (try in google you would get it easily)
I am using SOA book (ch 6, 7) for more information of JAX-WS

For Security, Arch, Design, - I got another book "J2EE 1.4 Web Sevice"

Last but not least - Notes of Ivan Krizsan are extremely useful.

I would follow above for iteration one. Once I cover all the topics & have basic knowledge of all objectives. I will start iteration two.
While second iteration (for same study material), I will cover objectives one by one,
e.g
- XML & XML schema from RMH + Ivan Krizsan notes XML + available mock exams.
- Soap from RMH + Ivan Krizsan notes for SOAP + available mock exams.
- WSLD from RMH + Ivan Krizsan notes for WSDL + available mock exams.

Ivan Krizsan notes cover each section of exam objective point by point : So I won't spend time on making notes (as I think I have one of best notes available).

I think with two iterations I would be ready for exam.

Note: there are not JWS 1.5 mock exam as of now. But JWS 1.4 mock exam are still usefull for most of tpoics.
(except for JAX-RPC which is replaced by JAX-WS). You can find mock exams in Links section.

Most of the time questions I found in this forum for staudy material only. I am dying to read technical doubts/ questions of other Ranchers, please post here. That would be helpful to test my basics.

Thank you for the quick response , Deepika. Yes , once I do get properly started , will be plaguing you and the rest with questions. Right now its a blank slate.

Had you been somewhere close to where I live , it would have been great to swap progress updates and such.

I do not live in Canada but we are not far from exchanging doubts /questions using this forum.

And when I started for this cert, I was blank too. No idead at all, still I do not have idea what I am doing but I think baby steps would be helpful to cover the distance.

My first baby step was
RMH - ch 1 to ch 5.

I dont reside in Canada. Yeah, I have decided to go for SCDJWS 5.0.
Looks like its going to take the same time for a beginner to prepare for 4.0 or 5.0

I live in Downtown Toronto, recently finished SCJP and now interested in SCDJWS. But I dont have any idea about the exam ad the topics whatsoever...
Can I still be included in the study group?

First question - Where do I get the suggested book? Is there a e-book available?

Anyway ,welcome to the study group. I bought RMH from 'Biggest Book Store' - Its on Edward street. Close to the Dundas Square.

To the group in general , I have a doubt - can you give me an XML snippet that follows this DTD -

How can item have more than one items?? I mean nested tags cant have the same name , can they?

Like Deepika said , let that not be a restricting constraint though to join the study group.

The prev posts have inidicated that Whizlabs may not be that great for mock up tests. Does anyone have any thoughts on this?

could someone please explain more about this?

item can be an empty tag or have numerous item tags

or

This is not answer to your query.

I am not reading DTD as BP approves use of XML Schema.
So DTD is not part of JWS cert.

Please correct me if I am wrong.

Are you reading DTD for your interest or for some other reason.

i am planning to give SCDJWS (1.5) during last week of August 2009

I have got abundant study material with me.

have completed RMF: first 5 chapters
did study SAAJ as well.
did part of JAX-WS implementation during my practice simulation

i would need a mentor to get to the target asap.
i am actually lost on how to proceed.
