Hello to all ,i gave today the SCJP SE 5.0 and failed with 50 %
i would like to share my experience .. what made me and failed was that i knew lots of answers but did not make a time management strategy.
The multiple questions ware much easier than the Devaka Exam and the Whizlabs exam. Much Much Easier and most questions ware Quite the same . This means that if you studied well The K&B book you would do well.
What was hard was that i did the pass the difficult questions and answering the easy ones but i got lost with the drag and drop questions and did not have time . when i was at question 42 i had 55 minutes and got anxious and started answering the questions Quick .

my score was
Declarations,Initialization,Scoping....58%
Flow Control............................... 45%
API Contents.............................. 50%
Concurrency ...............................25%
OO Concepts...............................50%
Collections/Generics .....................60%
Fundamentals............................. 54%
50 % needed 59%
36 Answered Correctly and needed 43
So i hope next time i do better practice on drag and Drop questions .
Most questions that i did not answer well ware threads,i/o,and drag and drop questions (This is where Much practice is needed)
Any Suggestions?

Hi Peter,

Don't give up, I'm sure you'll succeed the next time. Just tell to yourself " I failed, because this exam is tough and it's not just a piece of paper" .

I think you must study concurrency (threads are not easy).

If I tell you the truth, concurrency is the easiest topic, if you have sufficient practices with it. I recommend you to read the Threads chapter of K&B book again, and do your own practices. Especially write your OWN codes to demonstrate the monitor locking theory in practice. If you feel that you understood your own code completely, then go for some deep practices, just like demonstrating a dead-lock situation. After writing a successful code for that, think why and how the dead-lock is caused there. Another important part of concurrency is the waiting and notifying system. To understand that how these methods are working, please read JavaDoc of the java.lang.Object class. And try to understand everything clearly. Let me give you an example. It says that IllegalMonitorStateException will be thrown, if either wait() or notify() is called without having an appropriate synchronized block, in other words that exception will be thrown if the current thread is not owning the monitor lock of the object, where that method is called on. In addition to keep that in your mind as a plain-old theory, try to understand that *WHY* it is is designed to throw an exception for that case. You may not understand that only by thinking, thinking and thinking, but if you write some your own programs to illustrate the usage of those methods, it will not be too hard to understand that. Practicing and thinking (of course the imagination), will surely lead you to pass the exam in the next attempt.

Warm Regards,

Devaka.

Hi Peter. I know it is very difficult to come out from the experience of being failure. But have faith in you & start doing the preparation again. I am sure you will do it this time. Best of luck for your preparation.
