I have both java 1.4.2 and Java 6 (update 13) in my office PC.
I wrote few small java classes. when I try to compile them with the Java 6, it takes about 10-15 minutes to compile. It also takes about 1 minute to start the execution of the program. Because of this, progress in work has become extremely slow.
The same program compiles instantaneously in my home pc. Home PC, however, has only java 6.
Why ?
I cannot remove java 1.4.2 in office pc. can you suggest me a solution ? Please help me. Thanks in advance.

is your office computer running other applications? what are the specs of your office vs. your home pc? If your office one is a 286 running at 2 megahertz, it WILL take a lot longer than a current dual core 20 ghz machine...

My point is really there are too many unknown variables here for anyone to give you much assistance. It's kind of like asking why one car gets 8 miles per gallon and the other gets 50. maybe one is a Hummer and one a hybrid, or maybe they are both the exact same make and model, but one has a leak in the gas line...

You could also be storing and compiling the files on a network drive. I was doing this originally on my computer in work, was deathly slow because the network was slow. Try moving the files onto your C drive (if your company allows it)

The first step is to figure out why it is so slow:
- is it the network?
- is it the CPU? (are other things taking all the resources)
- is it the memory? (are you paging)
