Milton, could you turn that down just a bit? I know you're allowed to listen to radio, but I thought, maybe, as a personal favor...

I think I can beat Google. As soon as I get my flux capacitor working again....

By the way, does anyone have a DeLorien I could borrow?

But for serious:

Google's downfall (in my opinion) will be spreading themselves too thin. Eventually they will spread too far and have to "trim the fat". When that happens I think the Google we know will not exist anymore.

The key to beating google is choose a niche that google doesn't occupy or doesn't fill very well. For example, thumb-twiddling. Google doesn't have thumbs. I do. Can you see me google! I'm twiddling! You can't stop me! Ahahahahaha!

I heard something about natural search engine technology which *might* be the searching technology for next generation (as it said). If it is, WolframAlpha search engine, which is the brainchild of Stephan Wolfram, can beat Google ultimately.

On WolframAlpha, I searched for "who am I?" and got my IP address as the result, but when I searched for my name, unfortunately it doesn't recognize me. But I got surprised when I searched for "y=sin(x+tan(x))". IMO I think that it may beat Wikipedia, but not Goooogle!

I see absolutely no sign of Google's ultra-powers wearing off. Microsoft's Live search is nowhere near as popular as Google, the Yahoo Publisher Network is nowhere as popular as Google Adsense. Google have a huge array of online applications. Google are preparing for cloud computing... They are on top of everything. Google IS the internet nowadays.

People are getting used to with google.
For example when they start using colgate they never think to change the brand even for toothpaste.

Did you get me ?

True but that's what Microsoft would be saying before Fire Fox came into being.

But I admit the comparison is faulty. IE-6 was always a s**t browser. (I wonder why I still use IE-6 though ) Google on the hand is a pretty good and well accepted product (used by choice not force!) so yes it not going to be replaced by something new.

The fact though is Google never had any real competition. Now it does be it from WolframAlpha, Bing and for that matter twitter. I see a lot of people giving the same comment that Bert Bates made namely twitter gave a better result than Google!

My take? I think Google's got to do what it does best - Innovate.

P.S --> when I say Google I mean the Google search Engine only. Google has far too many quality products in other areas where the competition is no where near!

Maneesh I disagree with you.
You have to change the habit of becoming used to with any service.

So you are saying one must not use Google, because they might get used to it?You are not even considering if google products give what one requires?

What does this have to do with what Maneesh said? There's no point in switching to an inferior alternative, and that's what the competition is at the moment.

Let me ask you a question as a sort of answer to your original question.
Why do you want to beat google or want google beaten? And at what?

Disclaimer: I do not work for google. I have not worked for google in the past. I am not related to any of the google employees, past or present. Google has not paid me for this message.

My answer : Change is necessary in life. For example , tree grows , child grows.Child do not remain child forever
There are many features that google do not support and we can't create because we do not have that much financial backup(frankly)

Disclaimer : I am not employee of bing.com nor working in Microsoft or @ ask.com etc.

For example we will provide image as a search(Instead of text). Then we will see images as a result.

If you mean all the images are of the same size, then that's no big deal.
If you mean returning an image as a result because some portions match or the search image is a part of the big picture (pun intended) then you are talking!

Well if you got an idea, go for it. Remember, you cannot patent concepts, but rather implementations. All you need is a good lawyer. I do not know where you live, but Mumbai has a patent office. Here's mine http://india.bigpatents.org/view/10355/0650a4477bd

How to find the way.
