Insert French Characters

Hi All,

I am trying to insert french characters into a table but when I select the messages from the table, the data is improper.

This is the description of the table

   SQL> desc sys_messages
 Name                                      Null?    Type
 ----------------------------------------- -------- ----------------------------
 MESSAGE_CODE                              NOT NULL VARCHAR2(20 CHAR)
 LANGUAGE_CODE                             NOT NULL NUMBER(5)
 MESSAGE                                            NVARCHAR2(255)
 

Following are the statements i executed on the SQL prompt.

    
SQL> insert into sys_messages (message_code, language_code,message) values ('MUD01', '2','Stéphane n''a toujours pas commencé à tester');

1 row created.


SQL> select MESSAGE_CODE,LANGUAGE_CODE,MESSAGE from sys_messages where message_code='MUD01';

MESSAGE_CODE         LANGUAGE_CODE    MESSAGE
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
MUD01                            2                        St?phane n'a toujours pas commenc? ? tester

Can any one tell me how to solve this problem.

what language is NLS_LANG set to? what is the character set?

Please make sure your DB is UTF-8 standards. UTF-8 allows international character encoding. If you are still facing problem, please create a DB with UTF-8 standards.
