i have no idea about this topic.
Can you people help me find out what this means in java?

just a simple definition followed by some materials will be very much apprecitated.

Wikipedia has a decent article on this. I suggest that the original poster review all the resources available and then come on back with more specific questions if he has any. Specific questions will have a much greater chance of gaining specific helpful responses.

A *Design Pattern* is a proven solution for a frequently occurring problem. -- in a simple manner.

Many people might have faced some issues during the programming of applications and they had designed a solution for each common problem and it is tested thoroughly and recognized as a pattern for that particular design. It helps in designing the structure of an application by keeping various factors like performance, scalability etc., in mind.
