A whole bunch have been mentioned in these forums over the years. Have a look at any of them.

There are a number of solid books on Hibernate out there. I'd suggest that everyone needs a copy of "Java Persistence with Hibernate" by Gavin King, as that's pretty much the reference, but it's not necessarily the best learning tool.

I wrote "Hibernate Made Easy" because I found alot of people were really struggling to learn Hibernate, which is rather silly, seeing that the intention of Hibernate was to make object to relational database mapping much easier. The book goes through a number of very sensible and straight forward, self-contained examples (you can jump into chapter 12 without having done chapters 9,10 and 11), and it really teaches you the fundamentals. And, like anything else, if you really understand the fundamentals, the more advanced stuff becomes much easier to comprehend. And on the "Head First" note, many people say my 'conversational writing style' is similar to the "Head First" books, but with a bit more cynicism and satire. I find that very flattering.

Cameron McKenzie's Hibernate Made Easy

I should also say that "Harnessing Hibernate" is another good book on Hibernate, which is itself a good bridge between my book, Hibernate Made Easy, and Gavin King's book.

Oh, and thanks for giving me a chance to plug my books.
