Dear Raunchers........

im new to this site.
im planning to take scjp6 exam after couple of months, but my project manager challenged that it is impossible for me to complete my exam in a month.
So i want to show him that nothing is impossible!
my friends suggested me to go with scjp5 as it is easier than scjp6,but i feel doing the latest version is better.
But im confused....sometimes i too feel to take scjp5 as i dont have enough time.
Pleases suggest me which one shall i write scjp5 or 6???

Hi neeha, welcome to javaranch.

DON'T go for SCJP 5. It would be a waste as SCJP 6 and 5 have only a few differences and by just studying 2-3 API classes, you'll be certified with the latest certification. So go for SCJP 6.

Also your name is not according to the javaranch naming policy so please change it...

Yes, I agree with Ankit, also SCJP 6 has more time its 3hr and 45 mins..... even this I found too less when I
sat scjp6 I was out of time, so i would say same numebr of questions 72 and more time definitely wins over scjp5

Good Luck! I am also studying for scjp6.

can you please share the books or material related information for scjp6 exam. I have cathey sierra book for 5.0. Is it enough or is there any latest release for 5.0?

i have version 5.0 book too. But I am appearing for 6.0 exam in next 3 days.

There is a very little difference between the two exams. YOu can study the delta chapters online. Unless ofcourse if you want to spend money and buy another K&B book for version 6.0 !!

Pass mark for SCJP 6 is 65%, whereas SCJP 5 could be passed scoring 59%.

You can get a lot of useful information in the javaranch Scjp Faq.

BTW, if you are new to java, then 20 days might not be enough for SCJP. If you have had some exposure to java, then 20 days might be enough...
