I have spring beans which call SessionBean methods(EJB3) on JBOSS 4.2. I want to control transactions from Spring instead of session bean methods. So I tried to use JtaTransactionManager. But somehow it is not working.

I configured transaction manager in following way.

I get following exception.

org.springframework.beans.factory.BeanCreationException: Error creating bean wit
h name 'transactionManager' defined in ServletContext resource [/WEB-INF/classes
/beans.xml]: Invocation of init method failed; nested exception is java.lang.Ill

I never managed to use JtaTransactionManager and JBoss, but this might be helpful to you.

I got the solution. You have to remove any jta.jar from you application's classpath.
Configure his transactionManager bean as follow:

Although, I think if you do not set userTransactionName property, the "java:comp/UserTransaction" value will be used by default.
So you dont need to set this property.
As we can see at springFramework documentation:

For typical JTA transactions (REQUIRED, SUPPORTS, MANDATORY, NEVER), a plain JtaTransactionManager definition is all you need, completely portable across all J2EE servers. This corresponds to the functionality of the JTA UserTransaction, for which J2EE specifies a standard JNDI name ("java:comp/UserTransaction"). There is no need to configure a server-specific TransactionManager lookup for this kind of JTA usage.

Hope it helps you.
