Hi,

Is java RTS part of the JDK or does it have to be downloaded separately as a jar?

SCJP 5.0, SCWCD 1.4, SCBCD 5.0, SCDJWS 1.4 & 5.0, SCSNI, ICSD for XML, SCEA 5 , ACE: Flex 3.0 and Air, ACE : Flex 4.0

It's SUN's commercial implementation of Real-Time Specification for Java (JSR-001). It's available for evaluation licensing. Check Java RTS.

What is Real-Time specification ? Is it different than JLS ?

Yes. You will find the Real-Time Specification here.

Main characteristic of a real-time application is that it subjects to real-time constraints. So the Java RTS (which is Sun's implementation of RTSJ) guarantees determinism (that is response times must be deterministic within given limits) by ensuring the time-critical code is executed at the highest priority.
