It's in the same space, and provides a Java alternative to doing what you can do with Flex and Silverlight.

One of the key advantages of JavaFX, is that it provides a concise and easy way to some tremendous stuff,
but it is not limiting. If you have specialized requirements, or have existing jar files, JavaFX lets you bring
the whole flexibility of the entire Java platform to the table.

Hi Jim , I somewhat used Flex for very basic development just for learning , and I was very much impressed with their AMF-PHP library by which it can communicate with PHP , is there a standard way of remoting available in JavaFX , I know there is no direct way as per the API but can you provide may be a sample application which uses hessian library or something , I tried but due to limited knowledge could not figure it out , is there some alternative of this kind exists , although I read on steveonjava that jfxtras will soon include something like this, but is something available right now to do the same.

I'm mainly a php developer moving more into Java and was impressed by JavaFX and Silverlight, as well as Flash/Flex but still unsure about its future. Thanks for responding. It's good that existing Java stuff can be used within JavaFX i.e. existing business logic/models.
